NYCC 2026: G.I. Joe Classified Series Reveals First 2027 Wave — H.E.A.T. Viper, Hardball, Daina & Shipwreck!
NEW YORK COMIC CON 2026 — Hasbro gave G.I. Joe fans plenty to get excited about during its G.I. Joe Classified Series brand panel at New York Comic Con 2026, presenting packaged looks at four figures planned for the first wave of 2027 offerings: Cobra H.E.A.T. Viper, Hardball, Oktober Guard Daina, and Shipwreck & Althea!
SerpentorsLair editorial staffer R.A. Rayne was on hand to capture exclusive, original photographs of the new figures, including detailed views of their packaging, accessories, and character artwork.
For longtime collectors, these releases represent a particularly exciting mixture of classic 1980s characters, Cobra army-building opportunities, and some long-awaited additions to the G.I. Joe Classified roster.
Cobra H.E.A.T. Viper: The Anti-Tank Specialist Returns!
One of the biggest highlights from the presentation is the return of the Cobra H.E.A.T. Viper. Originally introduced in the 1989 G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toy line, the H.E.A.T. Viper was one of Cobra’s most distinctive specialty troops.
The name stands for High Explosive Anti-Tank, describing the trooper’s primary battlefield assignment: destroying enemy armored vehicles.
Hasbro’s modern Classified interpretation maintains the striking orange-and-black appearance that made the vintage figure instantly recognizable.
The figure features a vivid orange suit, distinctive armored helmet, dark straps and harnesses, black boots, and heavy anti-tank weaponry. The large launcher visible inside the package recreates one of the most memorable aspects of the original figure’s equipment.
Looking at the figure itself, the sculpted details bring the original design into the modern Classified Series format without sacrificing its recognizable visual identity.
The helmet is particularly impressive, retaining the familiar yellow-orange shell and dark face covering that gave the vintage character such a futuristic appearance.
For collectors who enjoy building large Cobra armies, the H.E.A.T. Viper provides another specialty unit to deploy alongside Cobra infantry, Vipers, and other battlefield personnel.
The rear packaging illustration presents the H.E.A.T. Viper firing his anti-armor weapon in the middle of an intense battlefield, surrounded by explosions and flames. The accessory callouts also provide a look at the additional equipment included with the release.
Among the four figures shown, H.E.A.T. Viper may have some of the strongest army-building potential, especially for collectors who have wanted a modern version of Cobra’s 1989 anti-tank trooper.
Hardball: Baseball Meets Heavy Weapons!
Another welcome addition to the G.I. Joe Classified Series is Hardball, the team’s baseball-loving heavy weapons specialist.
Originally released in 1988, Hardball stood apart from many other G.I. Joe characters because of his unusual combination of athletic styling and military hardware.
Instead of a traditional military uniform, Hardball wore a baseball-inspired jersey and cap, creating one of the most instantly recognizable looks in the later years of the original 1980s toy line.
Fortunately, Hasbro has preserved those classic design elements in this new interpretation.
The figure features a white baseball jersey with blue piping, a blue G.I. Joe cap, brown tactical trousers, a green backpack, and a selection of weapons and equipment.
Hardball’s unique appearance makes him an interesting addition to the increasingly diverse lineup of Classified Series characters.
The included equipment is another major selling point. The package shows a large drum-fed weapon, tactical gear, and a baseball bat, keeping the character’s sporting background front and center.
Collectors familiar with the original Hardball will appreciate how closely the new figure follows the spirit of the 1988 release while incorporating the more detailed sculpting and articulation associated with the Classified Series.
The rear artwork shows Hardball in an action pose, wearing his familiar uniform while carrying his heavy weapon on a military installation. The accessory graphics highlight his backpack and weapons.
Hardball may not be one of the most famous Joes from the original series, but that is precisely why his inclusion is exciting. The continued expansion into characters from the later years of the vintage line demonstrates the depth of the G.I. Joe universe.
Oktober Guard Daina Joins the Classified Series!
One of the most exciting announcements for longtime G.I. Joe comic book fans is the inclusion of Daina, a member of the legendary Oktober Guard.
First introduced in Marvel’s classic G.I. Joe comics, the Oktober Guard served as an Eastern Bloc counterpart to the American G.I. Joe team.
The two groups frequently found themselves operating on opposing sides of international conflicts, but their shared opposition to Cobra also created opportunities for cooperation.
Daina became one of the team’s most recognizable members, and her inclusion in the Classified Series is an especially welcome development for fans who have wanted greater representation of the Oktober Guard.
The figure features short blonde hair, a sleeveless light-colored top, camouflage military trousers, tactical gloves, and a selection of military accessories.
Her design successfully combines the character’s classic appearance with the realistic military detailing found throughout the Classified Series.
Particularly noteworthy is the Oktober Guard insignia displayed prominently on the front of her packaging.
For fans who have followed the adventures of the Oktober Guard in the comics, the inclusion of the unit’s insignia adds an extra level of authenticity.
The figure also offers exciting display possibilities for collectors who want to recreate classic encounters between the Oktober Guard and G.I. Joe.
Her package artwork features Daina in a battlefield environment carrying her rifle, with accessories illustrated alongside the character.
Daina’s arrival opens the door for additional Oktober Guard characters in the future. Collectors will undoubtedly be hoping this release eventually leads to other members of the team joining the Classified lineup.
Shipwreck & Althea: A Different Look for a Classic Joe!
Rounding out the four figures shown is Shipwreck & Althea, an alternative interpretation of one of the most popular characters in G.I. Joe history.
Shipwreck has been a fan favorite since his introduction in the original 1980s toy line and animated series. His memorable personality, naval background, and distinctive voice helped make him one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.
However, this new Classified Series release moves away from his traditional sailor uniform and introduces a much more tactical appearance.
The figure features a dark blue shirt, knit cap, tactical shoulder strap, combat trousers, and military accessories.
The packaging also includes Althea, offering collectors another companion animal to display alongside their G.I. Joe figures.
One of the appealing elements of the design is that Shipwreck remains recognizable even without the traditional sailor hat and uniform. His beard, facial appearance, and overall character presentation keep the figure connected to the original version.
The rear packaging illustration presents Shipwreck in combat, armed with pistols and surrounded by a battlefield environment. The included accessory illustrations also highlight equipment associated with the release.
The side-panel artwork is another highlight, presenting Shipwreck in dark tactical clothing and night-vision goggles.
This version should offer something different for collectors who already own the more traditional Classified Series Shipwreck figure.
New Packaging Design: A Closer Look at the Classified Series 230 Branding
One interesting detail visible throughout the presentation is the updated package design, which prominently features the number 230 as part of the Classified Series graphics.
The large numerals appear on the side panels, accompanied by character-specific artwork and the familiar G.I. Joe Classified Series logo.
The front of each package features a display window showing the figure and accessories, while the back includes detailed action photography and equipment illustrations.
For collectors who prefer displaying their figures inside their original packaging, the clear windows and character portraits offer an attractive presentation.
Meanwhile, collectors who open their figures will appreciate being able to examine the included accessories before removing the figures from their boxes.
What Does This Mean for G.I. Joe Classified in 2027?
These four figures illustrate Hasbro’s continued willingness to explore the deeper history of G.I. Joe rather than concentrating exclusively on the franchise’s best-known characters.
With Cobra H.E.A.T. Viper, fans receive a memorable late-1980s specialty trooper. Hardball brings back a unique member of the 1988 assortment. Daina expands the possibilities for Oktober Guard collectors, while Shipwreck & Althea offer a different interpretation of a classic character.
It is a diverse selection that should appeal to several different segments of the G.I. Joe collecting community.
Specific preorder dates, final retail pricing, and shipping information should be confirmed through Hasbro and authorized retailers as additional announcements become available.
